And another 1...

Today in Music Business History, we learned about Atlantic Records via movie. It was mainly about Ahmet Ertegün. His pen name when he would write songs was Nugetre, which was his last name backwards. He co-founded Atlantic along with Herb Abramson. His father was a turkish ambassador to the united states. Atlantic is said to be the most important independent label of all time. Sadly, Ahmet passed away not too long ago (October 29, 2006) at the age of 83. Rest in Power. I am now on a quest for Ray Charles' "Mess Around" on vinyl.

I received a weird letter that was apparantly from "Santa Claus." The strange part about this letter, is that on the bottom off the letter it makes a comment about how Mrs. Claus reminded him that "i'm a great father and a great student." Then to make matters more strange, my mom got the same letter, but on the bottom it commented about her being a great grandmother.

I want to know who sent these letters.

What a day

I am searching for MFSB - Summertime on Vinyl. If you locate it or have it and want to sell it, please let me know.

Today was interesting... For tour management, we had to go to Fine Line Music Cafe in Downtown Minneapolis. There, we met the general manager and the talent buyer for Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. I got there 10 minutes late due to having a well deserved breakfast/lunch at Betty Jean's Chicken and Waffles. I had one waffle, 3 chicken wings, and 2 glasses of cherry kool aid.

I have created a music profile on facebook. You can check it out right here.

there is also a facebook group associated with my music now.
go check it out!

RIP Pimp C

...and FUCK them people at TMZ who comment with some BULLSHIT about Pimp C's death.

http://www.tmz.com/2007/12/04/rapper-pimp-c-found-dead-in-hollywood-hotel-room/

"Ah. Such a tragic loss.

Not really." says "Darv"

it gets worse:

"With a name like Pimp C...
he is predestined to be dead." - Puuupie

"Sorrow to friends and family.
Relief knowing one less person is making negative music that young children hear." -HappyHolidays

"A "legend"....where? In his own mind? We're much better off now." - D

"Not to be rude, but "dead" is beginning to become synonymous with "rapper"." - OCD

and on, and on, and on.
fuck them.

Pimp C, RIP. I thoroughly enjoyed your music.

So snow, we meet again...

Saturday night's snowstorm was nuts. It was nothing but non stop snow all day. I got to take off from work early to go home and watch the snow fall. Later that night, I had to run an errand for my friend Adam, which involved me driving to little canada, to st. paul, back to little canada, back to downtown st. paul. People were going 30 mph on 35W and cars were all over the place. I'm currently sitting in the cafe of McNally Smith and you can barely see the capital from the window. The snow is falling hard and heavy, and I like it. It didn't snow like this last year. But maybe I say that every year.

Anyway, I just recently ordered Kanye West's "Goodlife" single on Vinyl. His last vinyl for "stronger" had his patented teddy bear painted directly on the vinyl, but I was too late; it was sold out. I placed my order for this one, and the next day it became sold out. I was just in time. I'm waiting for it in the mail...

I just updated my website a tad. I really need to do alot to it.

Turn of a Friendly Card

This is a record I recently collected samples from. The album art is what made me pick it up as I know nothing about the Alan Parsons Project. This is what Wikipedia had to say about this one:

The Turn of a Friendly Card is a progressive rock album by The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1980. The album focuses on gambling, and loosely tells the tale of a middle-aged man who grows restless and takes a chance by going to a casino and betting all he has, only to lose it all. The original LP had a side-long title piece, which on the CD version is broken up into five tracks. The Turn Of A Friendly Card is also notable for spawning the moderate hits "Games People Play" and "Time," the latter of which was Eric Woolfson's first lead vocal appearance.

Lamont Dozier - Working on You

This is one of my favorite records i've picked up. My favorites are Why, Nobody Told Me, Too Little Too Long, Wired Up, Working on You and You made Me a Believer. I can play it the whole way through without skipping a song.
